Hi, Mark,

Loose route in SIP means the Proxy will not change the
Request-URI and just forward the message according to
Route header (if exist). The routing information is
carried by Route header and Contact header itself. It
has nothing to do with IP layer.

Hope this clarifies.

Peili

Which one maintain the route information in SIP,
transaction layer or IP layer?

Hi,Peili:
If SIP signal is routed wiith strict route rule, it's
easy to understand why the application layer can
maintain the route information, but in loose route case,
here maybe have many additional hops between two hop,
who will maintain these addtional route information? my
thought is IP layer,right?

Thanks
Mark

Hi Mark,

Although similar at abstract level, SIP strict route and
loose route
are different concepts from IP route. You can find
definition of
strict route&loose route in rfc3261.
